couple & family therapy
Esther Perel
Committing to a life with someone — whether through marriage, moving in together, starting a family, or making another major decision — is one of the most exciting and meaningful steps you can take. It’s also a step that naturally brings up big questions, hopes, and sometimes hidden fears.
You want to feel confident not just in your love for each other, but in your ability to build a healthy, resilient relationship that can thrive over time.
That’s where pre-marital and pre-commitment counseling comes in.
I work with couples who are engaged, dating seriously, or preparing for major life transitions together. You don’t have to be following a traditional path to benefit from this work. Whether you’re planning a wedding, thinking about moving in together, or considering starting a family, this is a space for you to slow down, strengthen your connection, and prepare thoughtfully for the future you’re creating together.
In our work, we’ll explore important topics like:
• Communication patterns — how you talk, listen, and repair when things go wrong
• Conflict — how you each handle disagreement, and how you can fight in a helpful manner and stay connected even when you don’t see eye to eye
• Values, hopes, and dreams for the future — from career goals to parenting to finances to how you envision your daily lives together
• Family backgrounds — how your histories shape the way you love, trust, and navigate challenges
• Intimacy and emotional closeness — what helps you feel safe, seen, and cared for
• Expectations — spoken and unspoken — that can sometimes cause friction if left unspoken and unexplored
This is not about “fixing” your relationship because something is wrong.
It’s about investing in your relationship because it matters.
My approach is supportive, non-judgmental, and collaborative.
I help you recognize the strengths you already have, identify areas that could use extra attention, and learn tools to support lasting connection — not just in the good times, but through the inevitable stressors and changes life brings.
Relationships thrive when they are built on shared understanding, emotional safety, and the ability to navigate differences with care.
Pre-marital and pre-commitment counseling gives you the space to lay that foundation with intention, wisdom, and love.
If you’re ready to invest in your future together, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
Not at all. I work with couples who are engaged, dating seriously, or preparing for other major commitments like moving in together or starting a family. Any couple who wants to strengthen their relationship before a big transition is welcome.
Absolutely not! In fact, most couples who seek pre-marital or pre-commitment counseling are doing well — they simply want to be proactive about building strong communication skills, understanding each other’s needs, and navigating important topics before they become sources of stress.
It varies based on each couple’s needs and goals. Some couples find that around 8 sessions are enough to cover the most important topics, while others choose to continue longer if they want deeper support. We’ll work together to create a plan that fits you both.
We’ll talk about communication, conflict, values, family backgrounds, intimacy, money, future goals, and anything else that feels important to your relationship. Every couple is different, so our work will be personalized to fit your unique story.
